An Imaginary Logbook for Transects Across the Great Pacific Gyre is an extension of a body of larger works called Traversing the Gyre. The Pacific Gyre is a place in the ocean where currents cause large amounts of plastic and other debris to accumulate. For a number of years I participated in conducting transects of the Cordell Bank Marine Sanctuary. While performing transects we recorded all the animals and birds we saw at the surface. We also recorded non-natural materials such as: balloons, crab pots and fishing gear. Fortunately, our offshore waters were relatively debris free. These pieces are my interpretation of seeing the constantly changing ocean surface and what it would be like to conduct transects across the plastic porridge sea of the Pacific Gyre.
