Found shopping carts, blue tarps, incandescent and fluorescent lights, mirror, rope, concrete. Approximately 21 x 12 x 5 feet Detail of installation Studio 204, Building 110, Hunters Point Shipyard San Francisco. New Gate refers to the sculpture by David Ireland that was located at Candle Point Stick State Recreation Area. Ireland’s sculpture was destroyed in 2009, shortly after the artist’s death. The shopping carts found along the bay’s edge a short distance from the Ireland sculpture suggested the symmetry of the original Newgate. |
